Havas was created in 1835. It was the first French news agency. In the year 1968 Havas Conseil S.A was created to serve as advertising and media consultants. The Havas Conseil S.A changed its name and came to be known as Eurocom. In 1987 the news agency of Havas was privatized and became Havas S.A. Eurocom S.A was changed to Havas Advertising S.A by name in 1996. In 1997 C.E.P. Communication was absorbed by Havas SA. In 1999 Vivendi acquired Havas and from then onwards Havas came to known as Vivendi Universal Publishing. In the year 2004 Vivendi Universal Publishing merged with Lagardere aand was renamed as Editis. In 2002 Havas Advertising was changed to Havas. The present Havas was a former subsidiary of the original Havas that got its right to the name in the year 2002. The headquarter of Havas is located in the outskirts of Paris. Havas is a holding company and listed in the Euronext main market. . The largest division of Havas Advertising S.A is Euro RSCG. The headquarters of Euro RSCG have moved to New York in 1997.
