Martin Sorrell wanted to build a worldwide marketing services company and for this purpose he was in search of a shell company. Sorrell bought Wire and Plastic Products plc, the producer of wine racks, wire shopping baskets, filing trays etc. In the year 1985 the company was renamed WPP Group and the CEO of the company was Sorell. From 1977 to 1985 Sorrell acted as the financial director of Saatchi and Saatchi advertising agency. In 1985 WPP acquired 10 marketing companies in the UK and US AND Sorrell got control over WPP.
